MEYN LBH — Poultry Logistics

Complete software platform for planning, transport, and reception management of live birds in the international poultry industry.

MEYN LBH — Poultry logistics platform
CASE STUDY

Project Overview

I personally designed and developed the entire LBH (Live Bird Handling) platform for MEYN, dedicated to the complete management of poultry logistics: from delivery planning, to transport, to the reception of live birds at processing plants.

The initial deliverable, entirely designed and developed by me personally, is now maintained and further developed by a dedicated team of two specialists. The platform was engineered to optimize and streamline the entire end-to-end process, ensuring efficiency and traceability throughout the supply chain.

THE CHALLENGE

What the client needed

Managing live animal logistics in the poultry industry presents unique challenges that no generic logistics software could adequately address. The main requirements included:

  • Optimally plan collection and delivery routes, considering specific constraints such as animal welfare, maximum transport times, and weather conditions.
  • Manage the entire end-to-end process: from scheduling farm pickups, to transport with specialized vehicles, to reception and unloading at processing plants.
  • Ensure complete traceability of every load throughout the entire logistics chain, with automatic recording of times, temperatures, and transport conditions.
  • Optimize resource utilization (trucks, containers, personnel) to minimize operational costs without compromising service quality.
  • Adapt the system to very different production environments, from North American companies to European and Middle Eastern operations.
THE SOLUTION

What I built

I designed and developed the entire software architecture of the LBH platform, creating a modular and scalable system:

  • Planning module: Advanced scheduling system that optimizes collection routes considering time, distance, vehicle capacity, and animal welfare constraints.
  • Transport management: Real-time tracking of transport vehicles, with load condition monitoring and automatic compliance report generation.
  • Reception module: Unloading and reception management at plants, with direct integration with weighing and quality systems.
  • Operational dashboard: Web interface for real-time visualization of all logistics operations status, with automatic alarms and notifications.
  • Scalable architecture: The system was designed to adapt to very different operational contexts, from small family businesses to multinationals with dozens of plants.

The LBH platform is currently in use at leading international poultry companies, including Maple Leaf Foods, Indrol, Padesa, Cargill, and OfTov. The system, originally designed and developed entirely by me, is now maintained and expanded by a dedicated team of two specialists, demonstrating the robustness of the original architecture and its ability to evolve over time.
